Today is such an important day in History, and I am glad I could be a part of it. I voted today, and I hope everyone else did as well. Whether McCain or Obama is elected, (even though people all know who I'm rooting for...check my January 2008 posts if you haven't already known who I support :D) Also, in class today Professor Kauer, my Children's Literature teacher showed us a video on YouTube about the famous Women's suffragists, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns. When I woke up this morning I never knew I would find some new role models, but what these women did for our rights is so amazing. They went to prison, were brutally beaten and ridiculed, and even went over 22 days without food just so we could have a chance to vote. I'm proud to say that I'm a woman and I voted, and I encourage those of you who haven't to get out there and do so before the polls close!
Love Always, Amanda
p.s. After we voted my Mom and me made cute Voter-inspired cookies together! It was so fun! Here is a picture of our creations:

Happy Halloween!
I love this Holiday! It is so fun to dress up and go to parties :) This year was a favorite of mine...First, \the movie theater had a special halloween party for all of its employees. We got to eat all kinds of yummy treats and watch a movie after the theater was closed. We ended up watching "Casper"...not my pick for the scariest Halloween thriller but I had fun watching it! I was really happy that they let me invite my best friend, Chris...he doesn't work there but is still part of the Westates family :) My friend Marianne even dressed up as her boyfriend Frank for our work party! It was so hilarious because she ended up looking just like him...
Then on Friday Night we went to "The Howl" a Halloween dance at the Staheli Farm. It was really fun, and Chris dressed up as a Chippendale! Haha it was so funny there was like 10 other guys in the same costume and he got so mad everytime he saw someone else. My friends Jennifer and Sara went a lady bug and butterfly, and I went as Tracy Turnblad from the movie Hairspray. If you haven't seen it, you better because it is my favorite movie!Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
Love Always,
Amanda

Homecoming Parade...Arrrr you feelin' the Dixie Spirit?
WOW! I wanted to tell you guys about a tradition we have here at Dixie State that is so much fun. Last week was Homecoming Week and there are so many fun activities on campus. My favorite two are Rock the Mall and our DSC Homecoming Parade. I was so sad that I wasn't able to make it to Rock The Mall this year...but I am determined to get a good math grade and they were both at the same time! But I am so, so proud of my fellow Ambassador's who took FIRST PLACE in the competition this year! They sang a pirate-themed version of the school song, which was so hilarious! And in the parade, we decorated our float to look like an old-timey pirate ship and dressed like some serious swash-bucklin' people. This year, there was even a competition and award for best float, and out of sixty one contestants we won too! It was so much fun singing the school song (even though it was so freezing) and these are the moments that I love best about our school. You can really feel the pride for our school at these events, and I'm proud to be a part of it!
Love Always,
Amanda
p.s. Here are some wonderful photos from the parade...hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Freshman No More....
Hello everyone...I am so happy to be back! This year (my sophomore year! I can't believe I survived my first year...just kidding of course!) started off so busy, but things are getting even more fast-paced with our midterms approaching. I just started my first block class, which for those of you who are curious, is a class that is more concentrated and usually happens every day, but starts in October instead of August. It is a math class and I have to tell you, I really love my math teacher, Dr. Banks. She is so hilarious and explains math in the perfect way for me to understand. I even got a B on the first test! I was so proud of my self. Math isn't my strongest subject, but I have a feeling that as long as I apply myself that I can work hard to get a good grade.
I know it's already October and I should have been writing more! But I will give you a good update of my life since we last got to catch up: This summer was lots of fun, I mostly worked at the movie theater, but I did get to go on some fun trips to Cedar City, Provo, Las Vegas and even California. Me and my best friend Chris also had lots of crazy adventures, as usual. I'm still totally obssessed with fashion, and I was super excited this summer when I saved up enough money for my first Juicy Couture handbag. I love it when you work hard to earn something and accomplish your goal! I will, of course, include a picture of my purse so you can see it. But the most important thing about fashion isn't about how exclusive or expensive an item is. It's about what makes you feel good and what reflects your style. I learned that from Tim Gunn, who is the host of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style on the bravo channel. You might also know him from Project Runway, which I am currently obssesed with. I was rooting for Jerrell :( but now I am trying to decide between Kenley and Korto. The finale airs tonight, so don't forget to tune in! That's all for now! Have a chic week :)
Love Always,
Amanda

My Final(s) Blog!
Hello everyone! I am sad to announce that this is the last week of school, and that this will be my final blog! Tomorrow is my final final (haha) and I now have a whole year's experience of being a Dixie Rebel under my belt. I can't believe that next year I will be a Sophomore! It is crazy how fast time goes by. I have had so much fun being able to write this blog and if anyone wants to keep in touch, feel free to e-mail me at dixieamanda@gmail.com I hope everyone has an awesome summer! So far, my plans are just to work, and go on a few vacations! I am very excited to be going to New Orleans, LA sometime in June. My best friend (Chris) is adopted, and he just got in contact with his birth mom and we are going to go meet her for the first time. Hopefully I will get to travel other fun places as well, but I am mostly just excited to have some time off and be able to relax for a few months before it all starts up again :D The chaos, as I like to call it! Good luck, and I hope to see you at Dixie State next year!
Love Always,
Amanda Jacobs
P.S. I will leave you with some gorgeous photos of the Ambassador banquet that took place last week!
Now that I'm not a freshman anymore I won't be getting beaten up anymore :) haha This is Pat, our Ambassador Advisor joking around...at least I hope so :S

Working Girl with a new 'Do...
Hi guys! It sure has been a fun week. First off, I finally got that haircut I've been blabbing about (look up if you want to see!) I really like it. My mom said "It's so Vanity Fair!" She is really funny! I think she meant to say Vogue...ha ha! But, on to today's subject. One of the most important aspects of life is, sadly to say, money. But i'm happy to report that I have lots of fun earning mine! I work at the local movie theater, and i love my job so much. My job is working in the box office, and I am really lucky because I am aloud to do my homework and read magazines in between movie times! It's so much fun. Also, 2 of my close friends, Taylor and Miriam, work at the theater with me. They call us triplet sisters because thats how close we are! Work is never a chore because we always end up working together or coming to visit another one! In the photo above, Taylor (aka Twin) is on the left, and Miriam (aka triplet) is on the right. Our nicknames have to do with our age: I'm the oldest and I'm called Big Sis (19) Taylor (Twin) is the middle girl (17) and Miriam (Triplet) is our baby sis (16)! Here are some more of our hilarious adventures captured on film from work last night:
You might be asking yourself, "Where can I buy this amazing lip gloss? It's so vibrant and wonderful." Well, it's Taylor's Special Dark Chocolate Recipe. Just smear, lick and dab for a shock of dark brown color that is sure to get you noticed.

The Great Race
Hello everyone! I am here to fill you in on one of my *new* favorite activities on campus. Well, its not new to everyone (it's been going on since the 70's) but it is new to freshman like me! It's called The Great Race, and it is a blast! Honestly I'm disappointed that they only hold it once a year. I can't believe I'm going to have to wait that long for another one! But, every year during D-Week, a time honored tradition on campus, students compete through different obstacles to be the winner. Some examples are a mud pit, a slip and slide, and even a rollerbladingrace! It looks like a lot of fun to compete, but also very tiring! I'm much better at rooting on people from the sidelines :) but afterwards there is a carnival for the whole community to enjoy. I was babysitting that day, so I took my favorite neighbors along with me to enjoy the fun! My favorite part of the carnival was the balloon animal man! We waited in line over an hour just to meet him. He was so nice! He made me a flower for having to wait so long. Here are some pictures of the race (the mud portion! ha ha) and the carnival:
